The Powerful Lessons Yoga Teaches Me (& Could Teach You Too)

Yoga is a way of life, it is a journey to your soul and your mind. Contrary to what many people believe, Yoga is more than just physical exercise, it is much more challenging both mentally and emotionally.

The most important thing that yoga has taught me is that by being open to the experience of yoga, I can discover many new things about myself. It opens a door of endless possibilities for me which transcend even to the level of the spiritual world.

Through years of learning, I have understood that yoga is about the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing. It gives me an opportunity to look deep into my mind and emotions. With every pose, my physical state changes, but my mental state is going through an even greater transformation.

The beauty of yoga is that it asks for nothing and gives me everything. It gives space to my overthinking mind to heal itself. It takes me to the sea of eternal calmness and thus relieves me of constant bustle that goes on in my mind.

When I am troubled emotionally, yoga takes me deep inside myself and shows me the root cause of the problem. The gentle poses of yoga soothe my pain and replace it with a feeling of serenity.

Yoga has taught me that the pain is often an indication to bring about a change in what I am doing. Thus, whenever if feel troubled by any sufferings, I change my pose, plan, posture and perception. It discourages running away from pain and instead forces me to focus on the pain itself, the process is very slow but allows me to look for alternate options which are more stable mentally and emotionally.

Yoga gives me a chance to listen to my body, I can not force into any pose as it’ll cause pain later. This has taught me not to rush towards any conclusion in  haste. I have learned to be patient and my effectiveness has increased exponentially.

Yoga has given me a very important lesson in life that change is inevitable and I must be prepared for it. Yoga has changed my life for good and I feel blessed for this. I am grateful to yoga and I believe  that if you incorporate yoga in your life, you will also change for the better.
